FDLRS-South Human Resource Development
Professional Development:
FDLRS/South provides professional development through workshops, conferences, online modules, presentations and teleconferences in the effective use of research based best practices in teaching pedagogy, instructional techniques, and ESE compliance issues. Workshops are correlated to the identified needs of the Miami-Dade and Monroe County's Exceptional Student Educational Programs and are aligned with each district's comprehensive system of personnel development. FDLRS's HRD provides Master Plan Points for each training opportunity, thereby enabling teachers to recertify through inservice training. Substitute funding is also provided for teachers attending workshops.
Professional Development (PD) is a key component in sustaining high-performing teachers. "Staff Development that improves the learning of all student deepens educators' content knowledge, provides them with research-based instructional strategies to assist students in meeting rigorous academic standards, and prepares them to use various types of classroom assessments appropriately." (NSDC--Content Standards: Quality Teaching) So that we can provide you with high-quality PD, the FDLRS/South Staff is asking that you take a few minutes to complete the Staff Development Needs Assessment. You can complete it online and submit it by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page, or fill it out, print it, and mail or fax it to Cynthia Magnus at Mail Code 9608, or Fax# 305.598.7752. Thank you in advance.
Media Materials:
FDLRS/South maintains an instructional materials center, the Human Resource Development Loan Library, where educational personnel who work with Special Education Students and their parents can preview and borrow materials on a short-term basis. The collections include diagnostic materials, professional and parent informational resources, videotapes, and manipulative and other instructional materials to use with ESE students. Consultant services are also available in the use of these materials.
Visit the FDLRS/South HRD Loan Library on the Dade Schools intranet to see a list of the more than 8,000 items in the library. Items can be ordered over the phone and sent through school mail by calling Jean at 305.274.3501. We also invite you to visit our library at 5555 SW 93 Avenue, Miami. In addition, our north Miami site can assist in the ordering and transport of materials.
