Public Awareness

Activities include media presentations on radio, television, and in newspapers and magazines. Child Find staff makes presentations at numerous conferences and meetings about various relevant topics, including referral, screening and evaluation procedures to identify children who may need special educational services. If you are interested in a presentation, call Child Find at FDLRS-South: Main Office: 305.274.3501, North Satellite Center: 305.754.4081 or Key West: 305.293.1646.

Pre-school Screenings

In an effort to locate children ages 3 to 5 (preschool age) who exhibit disabilities or delays in development, FDLRS-South Child Find staff provides pre-school screenings of vision, hearing and, upon request, development, speech/language and behavior. Screenings are conducted in early care and education centers, as well as in other facilities in cooperation with health departments, the Early Learning Coalition of Dade and Monroe counties and other community agencies. Child Find staff also assists the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Regional Pre-K Diagnostic Teams in providing comprehensive screenings to children referred to Child Find for evaluation. Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluations

To facilitate the provision of comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to children who may be eligible for special education services, Child Find staff processes referrals, gathers pertinent records, forwards case files to appropriate diagnostic teams and maintains close communication with those teams. Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations are conducted by qualified diagnostic staff throughout the six M-DCPS Regions and in Monroe County. Assessment may include audiological, speech and language, psycho-social and psycho-educational evaluations.

Children's Registry and Information System (CHRIS)

CHRIS is a computer data system used throughout Florida to coordinate services for children birth to 5 (preschool age) referred to any of the 19 FDLRS Associate Centers in Florida, including FDLRS-South. Service coordination data is entered by Child Find staff as children progress through the continuum from referral to service provision and is used to assist children and their families in getting the services they need.
